Tov Shem Tov; a good name is better than the best perfume. One’s reputation is THE most precious and perhaps the most fragile of our valuables.

Can one ever be degraded yet improve their good name?

Gd demands that His name be obliterated, contravening an explicit command; in order to attempt to restore harmony between a husband and wife. “Trample upon my reputation” says Gd, “if it may bring peace.”

Although we can all see how this reinforces our respect for Gd, we, who are not confident of our true value, and seek validation of our value, find it difficult to emulate Gd in this matter.

Being like Gd means being free of concern for what others think of us.
